Description
This comprehensive 5E Middle School NGSS Lab on the Earth Sun Moon System is designed to align with the NGSS Middle School MS-ESS1-1 standard “develop and use a model of the earth-sun-moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the sun and moon, and seasons“. The topics are explored and developed in the science stations.
Students love these engaging activities. Easy to follow and fun to use and teach with. You don’t have to add anything.
A google classroom distance learning version is also included so you’re all set whether you have face to face classes or have to teach remotely. You can relax and teach knowing that you’ve got this covered.
Topics covered include:
- Moon Phases
- Earth’s tilt and seasons
- Solar Eclipses
- Lunar Eclipses
Science Stations
- ► Sort It – students will sort and name the phases of the moon. These are actual photos (not clipart) of the moon.
- ► Read It – at this station the students will read about recent discoveries about the moon and answer questions on their comprehension.
- ► Research It – here the students use a computer and navigate to a reliable news source where they learn about lunar eclipses.
- ► Infer It [lunar] – students must make inferences from photos at this station.
- ► Match It [seasons] – this is a differentiated station. Students must match the season to the correct image of the earth’s orbit. Both northern and southern hemisphere examples are used.
- ► Infer It [solar] – students must make inferences from photos at this station.
